For this Diy handmade book covers, we will use a durable fabric as book covers. Other than that, you will also need a spool of thread, sewing machine, iron, measuring tape, pins, trimmings, shears, bias tape and fabric marking pins. Do not forget the most important things in this project, the books you will cover.
To begin manufacture the book covers, take measurements of the distance and width of the book. Lay the book on a flat working surface, facing you. For the length, quantum from top to lowest of the book and add ¾ inch. For the width, quantum the front cover from side to side and multiply it by three. Do not forget to write the numbers down for reference purposes.
Pull out the fabric for your handmade book sleeves and lay it on the flat surface with the wrong side up. Then exchange the dimensions measured from the fabric using the measuring tape and the fabric-marking pen. Cut out a part of fabric having the same measurement taken beforehand. The cut out fabric should be rectangular in shape.
Then, hold out your bias tape and sew it on the short sides of the fabric with the sewing machine. Trim off excess bias tape to accomplish a clean look for your handmade book sleeves.
Again, lay down your fabric on the flat surface, wrong side up, and then fold the edges toward the center. The folded flaps should be ½ the width of the book. Get the flaps in place using pins.
The remaining bias tape will be sewn on the raw edges. Keep the flaps folded, as they will serve as the pockets of the handmade book covers. Add details to the handmade book sleeves using braided or lace trimmings.
Handmade book sleeves made of fabric can show your personality, and at the same time can match the color of your backpack and other school stuffs. Be smart in class with style!
